How To Keep Away Snake From Living Homes

While some people believe that snake in homes has some benefits, its still important to keep them off as bites from venomous ones can be life threatening.

Snakes keep rodents populations under control, with a single snake able to eat 3 to 4 mice at one time. Some people prefer to live with those rodents in homes than snakes because of its scary nature. The good news is that snakes naturally can be made to stay in their part of the world and we all stay in ours.

Ways To Repel Snakes From Living Homes

Keep Grasses Short

Snakes are very clever, and tend to stay where they can hide and avoid being seen by predators like large birds and stray cats. And since snakes are cold-blooded, they use the shade from shrubs as a resting place to stay cool when the sun is out, which is a good reason to avoid letting grass grow tall enough to be used as snake cover.

So clearing bushes around, offers little safety.

Keep Away Their Food

Its no new thing that snakes prey on rodents such as mice and rats. They also eat lizards, frogs, insects, moles, voles and even fish. Eradicating their food supply keeps them far from homes.

Remove Snakes Hiding Places

Snakes are known for hiding in cracks and crevices. Remove sources of shelter for snakes, firewood piles, tall grass, dense brush, dark places, and open areas under sheds and outbuildings, can help deter snakes from taking up residence on your property.

Repair any damaged gutters, piping, and ventilation ducts. Repair or replace any damaged screens on windows and doors to reduce their access into the homes.

Avoid Too Much Moisture And Stagnant Water

Standing water sources like rain barrels, birdbaths, and ponds attracts things snakes eat like rodents, birds, insects, and amphibians. To prevent snakes from coming back, remove these sources of standing water or too much moisture.

Smoke It Out

Snakes have well developed sense of smell and are ultra-sensitive to odors and fumes. One smell they particularly dislike is smoke. One remedy is to dig a fire pit and let it smoke for several days – covering the embers with moss and leaves can give you the best effect

Use Natural Repellants

There are some natural things we can use to keep snakes in their natural side of the world. There include lemongrass, bitter kola tree, bitter kola, fox urine, vinegar, cedar oil, garlic, onion and lime.

How To Keep Snakes Out Of Toilet Seats

  • It is advisable to pour kerosene or sniper from time to time into the WC
  • Crush bitter kola and flush down from time to time
  • Check your surroundings and get rid of anything that can attract rodents close to your house cos it’s always when they are in pursuit of food that they find their way into the pipes.
